Hybrid Scrapbooking – My First Project Life Album

It’s been almost three years since I’ve done any scrapbooking.  Since then I was introduced to Project Life, the fast and easy way to scrapbook.  Although I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to scrapbooking, mostly because my stash of scrapbooking tools, dies, stamps, you name it needs to be used and I think it allows for more creativity too.

Project Life does make it easier to create memories in a simplified format to scrap those special events in your life and getting it into an album instead of sitting in your computer.  My kids still like going through their scrapbooks, especially when they’re home for Christmas.  The beauty of Project Life is since the album itself is in binder form, you can keep adding pages or move them throughout the album without having to deal with those annoying post albums.  So I’m sharing this hybrid album I made as a Christmas gift this year.  As a result, I’ll be continuing to send pages of picture updates throughout the year to the same recipient.  By the way, I was told, “it was the best gift ever.”  Who wouldn’t love a “handmade” gift?

Smile it’s the February Scrapbook Class

This month we did a generic layout that can be used for most anything.  Since I love photography it’s no wonder I fell in love with the MFT camera dies and stamps.  There are a lot of MFT products used that will be listed at the end of this post.  Click on the pics to see up-close details.

1 - Scrapbook 12x12 layouts

A double page layout using the mirror effect

1 - Scrapbook left page

The outside borders are MFT’s Mini Film Strip

1 - Scrapbook left page close up

I think I’m showing my age, but how many of you remember these polaroid cameras? I love the pic coming out of the camera and the sweet little heart on the lens cap.  Vellum paper was used for the ring around the heart.

1 - Scrapbook center spine

I used MFT’s Striped Background stamp to keep the two pages cohesive. The background stamp is SU Sanded Background stamp (retired).  “Say What” is MFT’s Chat Bubbles and Say What Die and Say What Sentiments stamp set.  To get the stripes to line up perfectly, I measured 2-1/2″ down and 2-1/2″ across from the corner.

1 - Scrapbook right page

On the bottom film strip, I wrote the names at an angle.  It left a good spot for some journaling.  However, I didn’t want to include it in the pic. (smile)

Love this large MFT Behind the Camera die.  A 1″ circle punch was used for the pic in the center of the lens.

Card Stock:  SU Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White, Basic Gray, Silver Glimmer and Vellum Paper.  MFT Sour Apple and PTI Harvest Gold pattern paper (on large camera)

September Card Class

September Card 1

This was a sweet fun card using SU Christmas Washi Tape and More Merry Messages.  I like how the sentiment goes with the look of a wrapped gift.  The bow was used with Silver glimmer paper and MFT bow die.

September Card 2

This beautiful vintage card was totally cased from Amy Rohl.  All supplies by MFT

September Card 2 Inside

This is the inside of the card.  It is so cute it could stand alone as another card.

September Card 3

Next up is this darling gift card holder.  No surprise to the recipient since it’s on the front.  This was cased from Barbara Anders.  All supplies by MFT

September Card 4

and of course, we couldn’t forget a Thanksgiving card.  This was cased from Julie Dinn.  All supplies by MFT.

Bonus Card

We did a bonus card that was cased from the SU Holiday Catty.  Thank you Sue D. for providing the materials.  What a fun night.

Mixed Media

Mixed Media Scrapbook cover

I had a fun time experimenting with mixed media on the cover of this album.  This started out as a plain white piece of chipboard.  It was made by adding layers of textures using die cuts, stencils, cheesecloth and stamped tissue paper.  I also added pearl paint, gesso and mod podge with a final dusting of Dazzling Diamonds to complete the cover.  I was finally able to use my Zutter Binding Machine to bring it all together.

I love the uniqueness and textures of mixed media especially since there’s no right or wrong way about it.  I can’t wait to try it out on scrapbook pages and more.

Supplies:  MFT, PTI, Stampin’ Up and Zutter Binding

Good Times Scrapbook Page

“Good Times” are what the scrapping girls had and made in the August class.  This bright and happy layout is for the first page of our scrapbook. All the pages we make allow room for added embellishments, pics and journaling.  We’ve been making two page layouts all year; three more months and we’ve completed an entire scrapbook.

Wow, did you know that My Digital Studio not only does scrapbooking and cards of all sizes but also multimedia.   This is my first attempt at completing a 5″ x 5″ scrapbook, along with creating a slideshow with music.  My husband’s office recently had an outing at the Orlando Grand Prix.  It was a great time even though I came in last.

These are the 5″ x 5″ scrapbook pages that went into this slideshow.  I’m looking forward to getting them printed.

Christmas from the Boys

What a versatile card this is using leftover DSP scraps.  You’ll be surprised how fast and easy this is to put together.

Cut the card stock to 3″ x 9″.  Score at 1-1/2″, 3″, 6″ and 7-1/2″ then decorate.  The finished size is 3″ x 3″.  This can easily be changed to a 4″ x 4″ card also.

Front with Belly Band

Check out the Stampin’ Dazzle Marker in Silver.  See it on page 19 of the Holiday catalog.  Great for writing on dark paper.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Jolly Bingo Bits, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler, Be of Good Cheer DSP scraps
Ink: Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler. Stampin’ Dazzle Marker, Stampin’ Write Markers, Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green and Early Espresso
Accessories: 1″ and 1-1/4″ Circle Punches, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details

Accordion Mini Scrapbook

The other day I posted a video by Carrie Cudney that showed how to make a “You’re a Gem” card holder. This little accordion album was inspired by Vil Maldonado and it’s made the same way as the card holder but without the side closures to hold the cards. The very vanilla cardstock on the inside was cut to 5-3/4″ x 9, scored at 3-1/8″, 3-1/2″, and 8-3/8″. This would be great for a quick and easy brag book or use for scrapping a weekend getaway.

Ink: Poppy Parade, Baja Breeze
Accessories: Edgelits Die, Lace Ribbon Border Punch, Modern Label Punch, Word Window Punch, Decorative Label Punch, Everyday Enchantment Ribbon and Brad pack, Pool Party Seam Binding
