Ornament Keepsake Tutorial

I finally had time to make the beautiful Ornament on the cover of the 2012 Holiday Catalog. Special thanks to Linda Heller for her insightful tips.

Following is a step by step tutorial on how to put it together. A list of supplies are at the end of this post.

Start by cutting six 3″ x 12″ strips of Very Vanilla card stock. Then stamp 20 of each ornament then run through the Big Shot.

To save time run both dies through the Big Shot at the same time.

Once they are all stamped and cut out. Place them in piles of four.

Fold three of the four ornaments in half.

Then use your bone folder to give it a tighter crease.

Use liquid glue (Tombow), to glue the three creased ornaments together. DO NOT attach to the non-folded ornament.

Using a two-way glue pen, glue around all the edges of the ornament, then add Dazzling Diamonds.  Set aside to let dry.

Next take your Scalloped Cherry Cobbler Tulle Ribbon and cut five pieces at 5.” Approximately three scallops wide.

Punch a 1-3/8″ circle out of card stock. Then glue the top part of the ornament upside down on the circle.

When the Dazzling Diamonds has dried, glue the 3-D ornament to the flat piece.

Using a hot glue gun, take your tulle and insert between each of the ornaments.

Quick Tip:Pinch the tulle in the middle then twist the bottom end then glue the twisted end to the base. The open end should be facing out when attached.

Next cut five pieces of Linen Thread at 12″ each.  To make double loops, fold in half to make 6″ then fold in half again to make 3″ then tie a knot at the bottom.

Next take your loops and lay them down the center of the 3-D ornament, then hot glue the knotted end at the base.

While the hot glue is drying. Take the smaller 3-D ornament and attach to the flat ornament.

Insert the smaller 3-D ornament at an upward angle on top of the tulle (between the green ornament).

Using the Rosette Bigz Die, cut a 1″ x 12″ strip of DSP. (I used Be of Good Cheer DSP). Then attach to the center with hot glue. Then hot glue a large Vintage Faceted Designer Button, topped off with a large pearl.

To give it a finished look on the backside, add a sentiment using a 2-1/2″ circle punch and adhere to the back.

Picture2

To make the hanger, punch a 1/8″ hole at the top of the and string through an 8″ piece of Very Vanilla Taffeta Ribbon. Tie a knot at the ends then pull through showing the loop on top.

Your final project. Give it a try, it's easier than you think.

Coloring Glimmer Paper

This cool technique came from Andrea Withers from the Stampin’ Up home office.  I love how this turned out.

Simply take your reinkers and sponge dauber and pounce on your glimmer paper. Be sure to let dry completely before adding to your project.

This one is using the Island Indigo reinker on Silver Glimmer Paper

Try using different colors with the other glimmer papers.

Scentsationally Simple

We all know that less is more and these simple cards say it all. I love this new stamp set, Scentsational Season with the matching Holiday Collection Framelits Dies. It’s also available as a bundle set (see page 16 in the holiday catty).

Save time by running everything through the Big Shot in one pass.

Try it with the new scented embossing powders, Sugar and Spice and Peppermint Sticks. The scent lasts for two weeks and you can always refresh the scent by using a Versamarker pen, then heat emboss.

I can’t wait to try the new Early Espresso embossing powder for the gingerbread man and the Gumball Green embossing powder for the Christmas tree.

All images are popped up with dimensionals and rhinestones top it off for that sweet blingy touch. Ink colors used, real red, gumball green, early espresso and daffodil delight. I used Very Vanilla card stock and the corner rounder to finish it off.

Accordion Mini Scrapbook

The other day I posted a video by Carrie Cudney that showed how to make a “You’re a Gem” card holder. This little accordion album was inspired by Vil Maldonado and it’s made the same way as the card holder but without the side closures to hold the cards. The very vanilla cardstock on the inside was cut to 5-3/4″ x 9, scored at 3-1/8″, 3-1/2″, and 8-3/8″. This would be great for a quick and easy brag book or use for scrapping a weekend getaway.
